False Teeth | Fake Teeth

Dentures are sometimes referred to as false teeth. People who have had their teeth extracted need dentures or dental implants to replace the missing teeth. Teeth may be extracted if they have been badly damaged by trauma, the effects of aging, or tooth decay.

False teeth are typically made in the dental laboratory with the help from wax impressions made by the dentist. The teeth of the dentures usually are made from acrylic resins. The structure that holds the teeth is usually colored like a person’s gums. The structure on which the teeth of the dentures are mounted can be made of metal and plastic.

A person with some natural teeth left may benefit from having those teeth even if they need dentures. If a person has some healthy molars, these molars can help secure the dentures while the dentures are worn.

Having a secure fit of the false teeth are a common concern. The more secure the fit, the more natural the false teeth feel. A poorly fitting denture can prevent a person from being able to eat the foods they enjoy or make the person experience discomfort. Ill-fitting dentures may also cause more bone loss.

While most dentures are removed by the person daily for cleaning, some dentures are permanently secured in the mouth by dental implants. A dental implant is a metal rod or screw that is surgically implanted in the jaw. The jaw bone heals around the implant which makes it more secure. While most dental implants are used to hold one false tooth in place, they can also be used for false teeth.

Dental implants for false teeth can be useful if the person has no natural teeth left to help anchor the dentures. Dentures are typically a much more cost effective solution to having all their teeth missing as opposed to dental implants since a mouth full of dental implants may cost the person eighty thousand dollars.

There are several types of dentures. The best solution to someone’s problems with missing teeth is a personal decision between the patient and their dentist. People who need false teeth should discuss their options with their dentists.
