False Teeth | Fake Teeth | Fake Tooth

When people talk about false teeth, they generally are referring to dentures. However, dental implants and flipper teeth could also be considered false teeth. Bridges also could be considered as that too as they are permanently secured to adjacent teeth.

Dentures are false teeth that are removed by the person for cleaning. This should be done on a daily basis to prevent bacterial growth which can cause bad breath and promote tooth decay of any remaining teeth. People usually soak their dentures in denture cleaner overnight.

There are different types of dentures. Full dentures replace all of the teeth in either the top or bottom of the mouth or both. The dentist does an impression of the person’s mouth which is used to make the dentures. The process of making dentures may require several dental visits.

During the dental visits for the dentures, the dentist uses wax rims to determine the proportions and correct positioning of the teeth in the dentures. The teeth are made in the dental laboratory. The teeth are fitted onto a wax denture that is used to test the denture’s appearance.

Partial dentures replace a group of missing teeth. A Cu-Sil denture is a denture that has holes that fit around existing, healthy teeth. The natural tooth is used as an anchor to increase the stability of the denture.

Overdentures are one of the types of dentures that are rarely used. An overdenture fits over some existing teeth. Though this is rarely used today, it may be used in the case of a person with a tooth that has had a root canal. The crown of the tooth may be cut at the gum line. This leaves only the root of the tooth which can be beneficial in reducing bone loss. The overdenture would then have a false tooth over the cut crown.

Immediate dentures are sometimes called temporary dentures. Immediate dentures are constructed before the teeth are extracted. This way, the denture can be used immediately after the teeth are removed. The immediate denture may need future fittings, adjustments, and relining.

After the person heals from the tooth extraction, the immediate denture may not fill well. A person may have a new denture made after the mouth is completely healed or may have the immediate false teeth relined for a better fit.
