Individual Dental Insurance

Since most health insurance policies do not include significant coverage of the costs of dental procedures, some people opt to purchase individual dental insurance policies.

Some health insurance companies offer dental insurance in addition to their comprehensive health insurance policies. A person may choose to add dental insurance to their regular policy. People who do not have health insurance through these companies may still be able to acquire individual dental insurance through the company.

Other insurance companies offer only individual dental insurance or dental and vision insurance. Coverage for the costs of dental care and vision needs is often limited or completely lacking in traditional health insurance policies. These vision and dental insurance companies fulfill this common need.

Individual dental insurance can be a discount dental plan or dental insurance. An individual dental plan for discount dental insurance is often extremely affordable. The monthly premium may be as low as under ten dollars. The discount prices for dental care can help the individual receive their routine dental cleanings and offer discount prices for fillings and crowns.

Traditional dental insurance plans typically have slightly higher monthly premiums. Instead of giving the individual a discounted price for dental care, traditional dental insurance plans often cover a percentage of the costs. The person with an individual dental insurance plan may need to pay a co-pay for dentist office visits.

Many dental insurance plans have an annual deductible. The deductible is the amount that the person must pay towards dental care costs in a year before the person receives insurance benefits. In most cases, the deductible is fifty dollars.

Many traditional dental insurance plans have a limit to how much the insurance will pay towards dental costs per year. The insurance may pay a maximum of five hundred dollars to twelve hundred fifty dollars per year. Some plans have no maximum limits.

An alternative to an individual dental insurance plan is a dental insurance plan for the family. Family coverage is often ideal for parents. Regular dental care is important for children and can be expensive especially for large families. A family dental insurance plan may not cover all the costs of dental care for the family, but it often makes proper dental care more affordable. Discount dental plans and traditional dental insurance plans are options for individual dental insurance.
